SUMMARY:Studio Experience: Holiday Trees and Glass Ornaments
DESCRIPTION:[et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ _builder_version=”3.22″][et_pb_row _builder_version=”3.25″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”3.25″ custom_padding=”|||” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.26.6″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat”] \nIn this workshop everyone will make a Clay Holiday Tree and two Glass Ornaments.  This is a project oriented class intended to expose students to both clay and warm glass in our studio. This popular series for summer camps is now available once a month. Every month\, participants will make a clay project (hand building using slabs and pinch pot techniques) and a warm glass project. \nYou will get both group and personal instruction. This is a great way for kids and parents alike to try both clay and warm glass in one session –without the commitment of an eight week class. Clay\, glass\, tools\, firing\, and instruction from our knowledgeable staff are included. Minimum age is 9 years old. You will be able to carve shallow relief designs into the clay or add thin clay designs to the surface. You will make a plaster silica mold of your clay piece. You will then personalize the project using a palette of glass frits and fill the shell of the mold with a frit paste. Your piece will then be dried and back-filled prior to firing. The final piece will be a 4”x4” hollow form that\, despite its delicate and sugary appearance\, is a strong and long lasting work of art.All materials\, tools and firing cost will be provided. The technique allows the artist to control color placement\, shading and degree of translucency unique to this casting process. \nIn this workshop\, you will create a bowl using the glass paste. Using a premade mold\, you will desing your unique bowl using clear frit mixed with colored glass powders. This will allow a wide range of possibilities. The final piece will be a 4” x 4” nonfunctional bowl. \nAll materials\, tools and firing cost will be provided. In this workshop\, using a selection from a variety of patterned glass\, you will use your cutting skills to create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. This piece may be slumped into a bowl or plate.\nAll materials\, tools and firing cost will be provided (a total of two pieces of 12” x 12” glass). Finished piece will be ready for pick-up on November 6.\nPrerequisites: Basic glass cutting skills. Make a spooky jack o lantern from clay by using hand building techniques.
