We are happy to offer creative clay projects-to-go for you and your family to complete in the safety of your own home. We will offer a variety  projects to create at home–and through the holidays.

Build a 3 Legged Bowl

Learn to hand pinch a three – legged bowl

Ceramic objects such as bowls, cauldrons and cups go back to some of the earliest known ceramic traditions. In this video, resident artist Alex Schmiechen shows some fun ways to hand build the parts necessary to assemble your own three – legged bowl right at home. Anthropomorphize your pot by adding features like a nose, eyes and mouth! And while you are at it, check out some other three-legged bowls from around the globe.

Paint a Cup

For this project you will receive a premade cup to paint with glazes provided in your kit. With the red, yellow and blue glazes you can mix your favorite colors to decorate your cup in your own unique style!

Purchase your project kit online and wait for an email with instructions for pick up and drop off.  

 

Once home, follow detailed instructions for preparing your space to begin to create!

See ICCGS Director Ellen Kleckner demonstrate how to hand paint bisqued ceramic cups!

In this video Ellen demonstrates how to mix colors from primary red, yellow and blue underglazes. She will show you how to design a pattern to apply to your cup and also how to be more free form, using a technique that mimics watercolor. This is a take home creative project!

Hand Building Tutorials by Bill Ball

 

Community Member and Ceramic Artist, Bill Ball, has created several amazing step-by-step hand building tutorials for you to create at home!  Perfect for beginners and those learning how to hand build. 

 

 Just follow these 3 steps:

1. Purchase a bag of Terracotta Clay for $16.50 by clicking here.  And then pick it up at the center Friday through Saturday between 10-4pm, with convenient curbside delivery available.

 

2. Take it home and download the FREE detailed PDF by clicking below.  This tutorial is created by Bill Ball, to help you make a hand-built ceramic project at home.

 

3. Once you finish your project and it is now ready for firing in our kilns.  You can purchase firing by clicking here, then drop it off at the center and we will take care of the rest  Your work will be available for pickup exactly 3 weeks later.
