Empty Bowl Project Bowl-a-thon: In Partnership with Marion Arts Festival
Join us for us for our annual Bowl-a-thon making party! Each year we invite volunteers to come into the studio and create bowls for the Empty Bowl Project at the Marion Arts Festival. Sign up to throw a bowl on the wheel (experience necessary) or make one by hand (no experience necessary). We supply the clay: you supply the creativity. This year, pre-registration is required to help us know how many to prepare for. This event is free and open to the public, all bowls created will be sold at the 2024 Marion Arts Festival, will benefit the Empty Bowls Program of Marion Arts Festival, sponsored by Veridian Credit Union – all proceeds from this program go to local area food banks, helping fight food insecurity in the community.
There are TWO options available for volunteers to create bowls: Wheel (must have previous experience throwing on the wheel) and Hand Building (no experience necessary). Please go to the link to register.
Wheel Throwing: throw some bowls on the wheel (must have wheel experience) 4:00-5:00 PM, 5:00-6:00 PM and 6:00-7:00 PM
Hand building Bowls (no experience necessary–instruction sheets will be available): Stop in between 4-7pm, 1 bowl should take approximately 30-45 minutes to create.
If you would like to participate in painting the bowls, we will have a volunteer workshop on April 20th from 11am-3pm.
Date: Saturday, March 9th
Time: Between 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Location: Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio
