Description of Demo:Maggie will be here to give a demonstration about throwing, trimming and altering porcelain on the wheel. She will cover traditional techniques such as: throwing off the hump and trimming on a chuck, as well as give tips on how to work with porcelain–the ficklest of clays.
Maggie will also do an Artist’s Talk at the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art on Saturday, June 17, at 1:30pm: Maggie will talk about her work and creative process, musings about creative placemaking as it relates to her ceramic training and stories from her past.
About the Artist: Maggie graduated with an MFA in ceramic design from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, and was the first American to do so. Maggie then graduated with a Ph. D in studio ceramics from Tokyo University of the Fine Arts. Maggie then became an Artist in Residence at Arrowmont in 2019-2020. She currently lives and works in Knoxville, Tennessee with a focus on wood fired porcelain.
