Visiting Artist Series: Sculptural Hand building Demonstration with Andrea Moon

​Next in our Visiting Artist Series is Ceramic Artist, Andrea Moon.  In this demonstration, Andrea will focus on how to construct layers through different hand building techniques. She will discuss and explore sculptural ceramics by using multiple coil and slab parts to build structural walls and figurative forms will be emphasized, as well as pushing boundaries of clay as a material in scale, volume, and structure.

12:30 PM–3:30 PM – Demonstration and Discussion (Q & A)

5:00 PM—7:00 PM – Artist Reception at Mount Mercy University with Gallery Talk at 5:30 PM (free and open to the public)

Artist Bio: Andrea Moon (b. 1980) grew up in Northwest Ohio and attended college at Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio receiving her BFA in 3-Dimensional Studies.  In 2009 Andrea completed her MFA in Ceramics and a secondary in Sculpture at Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas.  Among teaching Ceramics at various institutions, Moon has participated in national workshops, and exhibits nationally and internationally.  Her artwork is in private and permanent collections such as Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, American Museum of Ceramic Art, and The Missoula Art Museum.  Andrea served as the Residency and Communications Coordinator of The Red Lodge Clay Center and as the Director of Pottery Workshop International Artist Residency in Jingdezhen, China.  She believes in the professional development of emerging artists and strives to support and coordinate resident artists in accomplishing their goals.  Andrea is currently the Director of Education at Craft Alliance Center in St. Louis, Missouri where she resides and is an active studio artist.
