Soda Kiln Wadding Workshop
Date: Saturday, March 16th
Instructor: Rick Tibbott
Description: New for 2024, all Soda Firing Participants MUST attend a Wadding workshop for the upcoming April 12th-14th Soda Firing. This mandatory workshop is intended for March-April enrolled students who would like to have work fired in the April 12-14th Soda Firing.
A Soda Firing will produce different effects than our standard High Fire firings. The results are more atmospheric due to the amount of soda ash introduced into the kiln at the top firing temperature. However, this advanced firing technique takes additional preparation and staff hours. In this workshop you will learn about wadding techniques for the ICCGS soda kiln. All artists are required to wad their work for the soda kiln and need to take this workshop to fire in the ICCGS soda kiln.
Participants must be currently enrolled in the session.
COMMUNITY SODA PREPARATION POLICY:
1- Participants must participate in at least one Soda firing-related workshop to understand the preparation and loading processes offered by ICCGS, in order to have their work fired in the Soda Kilns.
2- Participants will add wadding to their own pieces to help save time. Wadding is available two weeks before the firing (April 12-14). All wadding must be completed one day before the loading date, at most the week before.
